How to play the Hundred Celebrated Poems ?
The Hundred Celebrated Poems has 100 cards for reading which are written *kaminoku , 100 torifudas which are the poem cards for reading and written **shimonoku , and some people with a reader. The people have to remember all 100 poems , kaminoku and shimonoku.
* kaminoku is a half of a 31-syllable Japanese poem , 5-7-5. ** shimonoku is the rest of the poem , 7-7.
1. Chirashidori This playing manner has been prevalent since the Edo era. There are all spreaded torifudas , and all people sit around it. When the reader reads a card for reading , kaminoku , the people look for the torifuda written the shimonoku. And a people who find out the card first can get it. But the reader can get no torifudas. If someone gets a different card , he or she has to lose one card from own got card , and the card is read again. If all torifudas are got , this game will go the end. The winner is the one who gets the most torifudas in the people.
2. Sashitori This playing manner is between two people with one reader. There are 50 torifudas , and each people has the half cards (25). But the reader reads all 100 cards for reading. If you get a torifuda of the other player , you give him or her ine card from own torifudas. If you get a different torifuda , you are given a torifuda from the other player. The winner is the one who has no own torifudas faster than the other player.
3. Genji-gassen This playing manner is between two teams , Genji and Heike , with one reader. It is the same Sashitori , but there are all 100 torifudas , and each teams has half of the cards (50).
4. Bouzumekuri You use only torifudas , cards for reading , which are drawn pictures. Then , the all cards are turned over , piled up and put in the center of people's circle. The people pick up one card from the top of it in turn. If you get a card on which a man is drawn , you put it next to the piled cards. If you get a card on which a lady is drawn , you can get it and turned up cards. But you get a card on which a Buddhist is drawn , you have to return all cards you got. The winner is the one who gets the most cards when the all piled cards are picked up.
